Don’t always believe what you think.

Thoughts are like a documentary movie, or short story; They only tell one version of events. For example, brain 🧠 (the director of your movie) might might slow down and emphasize a certain angle,

or have feelings associated with story that’s told, but that doesn’t mean this is the only way to perceive or interpret events. The story that is not told, another’s experience for example, is as important as the “reality” that we experience. Listening is key to walking in this world. It’s possible that the way you see things is not the way they are.

The scientific notion of “proven” and “evidence based” is quite valuable but should come with a warning label, “ one possible explanation of events.”

Michael Singer’s teaching style: uses nature metaphors to illustrate how our inner world works.

🧘 1. Letting Go Instead of Controlling

Metaphor: Like the leaf falling into a still lake, thoughts and emotions create ripples in the mind. When we try to “fix” or suppress the disturbance, we only stir the water more. The healthiest response is non-interference — just observe and allow the ripple to settle on its own.

🌀 2. Inner Disturbances Are Temporary

Emotions, like anxiety or anger, are just passing energies. We often “personalize” them and get caught up in the story, which gives them more power. If we instead observe without reacting, they naturally move through us and fade away.

🧍‍♂️ 3. You Are Not Your Thoughts or Emotions

Singer emphasizes that the “inner observer” — the one who notices thoughts — is your true self. Thoughts and feelings are just objects of awareness, not who you are. Cultivating this separation brings peace and clarity.

🔄 4. Energy and the Heart

When we resist experiences, we block the natural flow of energy in our bodies (especially in the heart and solar plexus). Letting go means relaxing and staying open, even when triggered. This allows energy to move freely again, and healing happens naturally.

🧭 5. Trust Life’s Intelligence

The universe is unfolding with perfect intelligence — even if we don’t understand it. Our role isn’t to control everything but to align with the flow, surrendering to what is.
